Contents of the brief description

The following brief description explains how the number of search results can be expanded.

 

Search

A skillful expansion of the amount of search results can be illustrated on the basis of the example smart "cancer nanomedicine". The search elements need to be typed in and the search will start by using "Search".

 

Access

By now, you get 12 results. Indeed more results with a content-related reference to them are intended to find. For the expansion of the search a basis out of the first 12 publications needs to be selected.

 

Expansion of the search by "View cited by"

There are various approaches to expand the search. First: Publications that refer to the original article via citations can be found by using the option "View cited by". As a result, chronologically newer documents show up that can be relevant to the research topic in form and content.

   

Expansion of the search results by "View references"

As second option to expand the search, you can have a look at those publications that are mentioned as a reference in relevant documents. Using the "Back"-arrow brings you back to the 12 original results, where you can use the option "View references". The output of these references is constant and they are due to the fact of reference older than the original one. Documents that are listed as references but are not available in the Scopus database can also be found. They are called "Secondary documents".

   

Expansion of the search results by "Related documents"

The third way to expand the search results is working with shared references. The original results can be used via "Related documents". Note that this function only refers to one of the results.

 

As a result you get a complete list of all related documents with shared references displayed in the middle of the page.
You can also open related documents based on authors and keywords. If the references, authors or keywords of the original article need to be displayed, they can be called up again via "Select references" or "Show authors", followed by "Select authors". The same applies to the keywords.

   

Patents

Sometimes patents can be relevant for a particular research paper. Aside from the option "Secondary documents", you can also find those associated patents. In contrast to the options to work with the document list, the patents can only be modified by a few facets and sorting functions. You can follow the link integrated into the title to an external database of the paticular patent commission, e. g. LexisNexis.
