Speakers:
Monika Hotze (Central Library FZJ)
Dr. Susanne Ruffert (University Library RWTH Aachen)
Well planned is half done: We show you how to conduct scientific literature searches in an efficient and successful manner. This lecture will focus on preparing literature searches and explain why it is so important.
31.10.2023 Added value of subject-specific databases in contrast to freely available tools such as Google Scholar. Current developments and tendencies (dt.)
Speaker:
Stefan Bastian (University Library RWTH Aachen)
Why do we need licensed reference tools and what differentiates them from Google Scholar and other freely available reference tools?
7.11.2023 Information search using Web of Science – Conduct literature searches, analyse citation networks, find experts (dt.)
Speakers:
Monika Hotze (Central Library FZJ)
Barbara Scheidt (Central Library FZJ)
Web of Science is a multidisciplinary database that lists articles from internationally leading journals, conference proceedings, and books in the fields of natural sciences, technology, and the humanities. The database can be used to conduct comprehensive literature searches, to identify connections between articles via citation networks, and to find experts in your field of research. In addition, you can receive information on the latest literature related to your research topic on a regular basis. The short presentation will provide you with an overview of how to use Web of Science efficiently in your literature searches.
14.11.2023 Systematic literature searches for scientific work; part 2: Methodology (dt.)
Speakers:
Monika Hotze (Central Library FZJ)
Dr. Susanne Ruffert (University Library RWTH Aachen)
Boolean or neighbourhood operators, truncations, filtering search results – there are many ways to create a precise search query. We will show you how to use them successfully and provide information on potential pitfalls.
21.11.2023 Evaluation and documentation of search results (science reading 1) (dt.)
Speaker:
Monica Gonzalez-Marquez (Central Library FZJ)
As the result of a literature search, you will receive a list with bibliographic information and abstracts, out of which you must identify the articles that are relevant for you. We will present a method for reading abstracts efficiently and using the information gained from them for your documentation.
28.11.2023 Introduction to using reference management programs (dt.)
Speakers:
Sarah Feicker (University Library RWTH Aachen)
Theresa Lennartz (University Library RWTH Aachen)
Reference management programs facilitate the preparation of academic papers by allowing both the storage of the sources used and the automatic creation of bibliographies. They help you to keep track of the references used and to work more efficiently. We will show you the advantages of working with reference management programs, and introduce you to RWTH University Library’s Reference Management Helpdesk service.
5.12.2023 Working with EndNote (dt.)
Speakers:
Sarah Feicker (University Library RWTH Aachen)
The platform-independent reference management program EndNote is considered the international market leader. This Coffee Lecture will give you an overview of the various organizational, research, and import options provided by EndNote to make your scientific work easier.
12.12.2023 Research field analysis (dt.)
Speakers:
Lena Nietzschmann (University Library RWTH Aachen)
