The University Library is currently only open to a limited extent.
Your most urgent questions on special arrangements in the library as well as on the support the library provides for distant learning and working remotely will be answered here.

 

General Information

What are the opening hours of the University Library?

From Monday, 25.5.2020 the University Library and the Medical Library will be open for borrowing and returning media.
The access is initially limited to 2 simultaneous users, therefore longer waiting times may occur.

Monday to Friday: 8:30 to 16:30 o'clock.

Can I borrow media?

You can order media from the Central Library, Library 2, the Textbook Collection, the Patent and Standards Centre and the Medical Library via the KatalogPlus from Monday, 25.5.2020 and borrow them from the loan desk on the ground floor of the Central Library or from the Medical Library.

Monday to Friday: 9 to 16 o'clock.

How can I order media?

You can research and order media from all locations of the University Library in the KatalogPlus.

Media from the Central Library will probably be ready for you in about one hour within the opening hours.

Media from Library 2 and the textbook collection will be available on the next opening day.

Media from the Medical Library will be ready for you on the next but one opening day.

Are there any late fees if I cannot extend the loan period?

From Monday, 25.5.2020 media can be borrowed and returned during opening hours.
Nevertheless, no late fees will be charged up to and including 19.6.2020. Please return your media until then if the loan period ends during this period.

Can I get a library card?

Members of the RWTH can still activate their library account in the self-service. ID cards for RWTH staff will be sent by RWTH in-house mail. For students the library card is the RWTH BlueCard.

Can I order copies of essays and parts of books from the holdings of the University Library?

Members of the RWTH can order essays and parts from books via the Journal Article Delivery Service of the University Library.

Can I order books and articles via interlibrary loan?

Interlibrary loan orders for books and journal articles via the DigiBib will again be possible for members of the RWTH from 18.5.2020. This does not apply to stocks that are worthy of protection for use on site.

Due to the coronavirus crisis, special conditions of the collecting societies agreed upon at short notice apply. For this reason it is possible to provide the articles electronically and send them to you by e-mail until 31.5.2020.

Then make a purchase request. We try to license the media in electronic version, so that you do not have to come to the UB.

How can I use the digital offer of the UB?

Members of the RWTH, i.e. employees and students, can use full-text access via the VPN client directly in the campus network.

Intellectual property rights and initial inventor consultation

I need to do a patent search or trademark search.

What about the initial inventor consultation?

This takes place by telephone in consultation with the participating patent attorneys. You are welcome to make an appointment by calling +49 241 80-93601.

How can I use the receiving office?

Currently, you can only use the designated afterhours mailbox in front of the University Library. It is currently not possible to hand in registrations in person.

All registrations received in the mailbox by midnight are assigned that day as the date of receipt.
Please fill out the declaration of consent for the submission of the property right application and enclose it with your application!

Can I have access to standards?

External customers can view standards at the Standards Info Point by appointment. Please make an appointment by calling +49 241 80 94480.
