The University Library is currently only open to a limited extent.
Your most urgent questions on special arrangements in the library as well as on the support the library provides for distant learning and working remotely will be answered here.

 

General Information

What are the opening hours of the University Library?

The rooms of the University Library and the Medical Library will remain closed during the lockdown. Borrowing of media and for media returns for students and employees of RWTH is still possible. Please make an appointment for book pickup at after ordering your books via the KatalogPlus.
Returns are also possible without an appointment during opening hours.

For book orders and pick-ups from the Medical Library, please make an appointment at .

Monday through Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All study spaces remain closed.

Can I borrow media?

Students and employees of the RWTH can order media from the Central Library, Library 2, the Textbook Collection and the Patent and Standards Center via KatalogPlus and pick them up at the entrance of the Central Library after making an appointment ().
Returns are also possible without an appointment during opening hours.

Media orders and loans or returns from the Medical Library are made by mail at .

Check-out of media is not available to external users during the lockdown.

How can I order media?

You can research media from all locations of the University Library in the KatalogPlus.

Media from the Central Library are expected to be ready for you in about one hour after ordering in CatalogPlus during opening hours. Media from Library 2 and the textbook collection will be ready for you on the next opening day. Please arrange a pick-up appointment on site.

Media from the Medical Library must be ordered by mail and will be available at the earliest after one hour on an agreed date.

Media orders from the Medical Library to the Central Library or vice versa are not possible until further notice.

Are there late fees if I am unable to extend the loan period?

During the lockdown in the next few weeks, there will be no late fees initially until January 31, 2021. Also not for media whose loan periods could not be extended.

How does the payment of fees currently work?

Currently, payment on site in the library is not possible.
The payment of fees must be made by bank transfer to the account of the university treasury under the following details:

Can I get a library card?

Members of the RWTH can still activate their library account in the self-service. ID cards for RWTH staff will be sent by RWTH in-house mail.

For students the library card is the RWTH BlueCard.

University non-residents will not be able to obtain a library card during the lockdown.

Can I order copies of essays and parts of books from the holdings of the University Library?

Members of the RWTH can order essays and parts from books via the Journal Article Delivery Service of the University Library.

Can I order books and articles via interlibrary loan?

Interlibrary loan orders for books and journal articles via the DigiBib will again be possible for members of the RWTH. This apply also to stocks that are worthy of protection for use on site.

Interlibrary loan of books that must be used on site is not available during the lockdown.

Due to the Corona pandemic, there is a special agreement with the collecting societies that allows delivery of essays in electronic form - initially until March 31, 2021.
All essay orders will be transmitted electronically to the orderer until this date.

Then make a purchase request. We try to license the media in electronic version, so that you do not have to come to the UB.

How can I use the digital offer of the UB?

Members of the RWTH, i.e. employees and students, can use full-text access via the VPN client directly in the campus network.

Intellectual property rights and initial inventor consultation

I need to do a patent search or trademark search.

The offers are directed only to RWTH Aachen University employees and students.

What about the initial inventor consultation?

This takes place by telephone in consultation with the participating patent attorneys. You are welcome to make an appointment by calling +49 241 80 93601.

How can I use the receiving office?

Currently, you can only use the designated afterhours mailbox in front of the University Library. It is currently not possible to hand in registrations in person.

All registrations received in the mailbox by midnight are assigned that day as the date of receipt.
Please fill out the declaration of consent for the submission of the property right application and enclose it with your application!
